RNFF ONLINE EDITION KICKS OFF WITH MANETTI BROS.

The program of the Festival's first day: saturday 31 October 2020. The virtual room of MYmovies.it lights up, spectators begin to tune in: the XVIIIth edition of the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest begins. This year, in its eighteenth birthday, the festival inaugurates its first online edition. The RNFF remains faithful to its origins, but is renewed, presenting an intriguing, daring and heroic program. A unique cinematic journey into the dark side of cinema. A trip made of surreal discoveries, macabre sides, mysteriously distant worlds, immersed in the darkest experiences.

A historical section of the festival opens the dances of this online edition: Ottobre Giapponese, which promotes Japanese independent cinema, with various international premieres. The documentary presented is Mishima: The Last debate, by Keisuke Toyoshima, in program at 16.00 on MYmovies.it. Vivid images immortalize the last moments of Yukio Mishima's life in his last debate against members of the student movement at the University of Tokyo, one year before his suicide. The film will be preceded by an introduction by section manager Marco Del Bene.

Also from 4.00 p.m. will take place David Lynch and the extraordinary Lectio Magistralis by Andrea Chimento, in collaboration with LongTake.it. The virtual seminar is dedicated to David Lynch's genius and the interpretation of one of the most recurrent themes in his cinema: the perturbing. Analyzing the Maestro's films, this fascinating itinerary aims to launch suggestions on the concept developed by Sigmund Freud and on how Lynch elaborated it in his works. The seminar will be open until the end of the Festival.

The festival continues with Celebrations (Celebrazioni), the section that homages the great masters of Italian art and literature. The protagonist of this day is Dante Alighieri, who, for the eighteenth centenary of his death, is rediscovered and honored by an exceptional director: Boris Acosta, with his fantastic film Dante's Hell, in national preview. The film is a fascinating documentary told by over thirty celebrities, scholars and artists from all over the world. Visually, it presents over three hundred paintings and illustrations by Gustave Doré and 72 original paintings by Dino Di Durante from Inferno - The Art Collection. The film will be available until 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th.

At 6.30 p.m. is planned the first award ceremony of the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest. The Premio Medaglia al Valore will be awarded to two of our cinema's greatest stars: The Manetti Bros., two brothers, winners of awards such as David di Donatello, Ciak d'Oro and Nastro d'Argento; they will present one of their most iconic films at the Festival: L'Arrivo di Wang. This film re-reads the prototype of the detective story in a sci-fi key, building suspense through a tight three-voice interrogation, which will end with an amazing twist. The film will be preceded by an interview with the directors made by programmer Silvia Moras and finally the directors' greetings.

Then, back at 8 p.m., the section Celebrations (Celebrazioni), the section that honors our literary artistic tradition with another film by the Maestro Boris Acosta, focused on the Divina Commedia: Inferno Dantesco Animato, a national premiere. Produced by Franco Nero, this animated medium-length film narrates Dante's tremendous journey through the first and most terrible part of the Afterlife: the Inferno. The film features more than 50 original color paintings from the book Inferno-The Art Collection and is recited in the vernacular in Dante's words. The film will be available until 8 p.m. on Sunday, November 8th.

The day continues. At 9 p.m. will be presented the first film of the International Feature Film Competition (Concorso Internazionale Lungometraggi): Woman of the photographs, written and directed by Takeshi Kushida. A misogynistic photographer falls in love with a woman for the first time. The man will help her to love her body through some photographic touches. The woman, unable to recognize her new body, will feel torn by two of herself...The film will be preceded by an introduction by the programmer Silvia Moras and the director's greeting.

All the films in the International Feature Film Competition (Concorso Internazionale Lungometraggi) will compete for two prestigious awards: il Premio Anello d'Oro al miglior Lungometraggio, awarded by the voting public of MYmovies.it and il Premio della Critica alla Miglior Regia di Lungometraggio, awarded by a jury of industry professionals.

It ends the descent into the darkness of this first day of the festival, with the projection of the pilot of the docu-series Il Giro dell'Horror, directed by Paolo Gaudio, created and written by Luca Ruocco. It will be available from 23.00, for the following 48 hours, to celebrate Halloween night. This Halloween Special (Speciale Halloween) allows spectators to discover Italian cinema and horror culture and the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest to take a plunge into the past, recovering the origins of its history.

Each film is available for 48h after the programming time, except Dante's Hell, Inferno Dantesco Animato and David Lynch and the Perturbing, which will be available for all the days of the Festival.
