DANTE ALIGHIERI NEW ROUTES TOWARDS HELL | THE WONDERFUL VISION

Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest, on the occasion of Dante's celebrations, presents LA MIRABILE VISIONE, a 1921 feature film by Luigi Sapelli focused on the figure of Supreme Poet, with live soundtrack by Maestro Marco Dalpane. The blockbuster, which stages the life and works of Dante Alighieri, was shot by Sapelli under the artistic name of Caramba. Sapelli stages the life and works of Dante Alighieri following a subject written by Fausto Salvatori. Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest on the occasion of Dante's celebrations shows the new restored version of the work by the Center National du Cinéma et de l'Image Animée in Paris and kept by the Cineteca Nazionale in Rome, based on two vintage Italian copies with original coloring and a French one. The first news on La mirabile vision dates back to the summer of 1920, when the birth of a project "brilliantly conceived by Fausto Salvatori to contribute to Dante's centenary celebrations of 1921" was announced in the film magazines. Released in October with a great advertising campaign, after the first screenings, it had a stunted circulation. It was only in 1926 that Pietro Fedele, Minister of Public Education and illustrious medievalist, was considered "an instrument of high spiritual and national propaganda" and reintroduced not only in commercial circuits, but also in school and parish circuits. The film has a complex and solemn structure, and its celebratory aspect, not devoid of rhetoric, is part of the wave of propaganda put in place for the reconstruction of Italian identity after the First World War, a tragic event magnificently represented in the documentary of opening of the Festival, THEY SHALL NOT GROW OLD by Peter Jackson.
