Phil Karlson (Chicago, 2 July 1908 – Los Angeles, 12 December 1985), is one of the biggest directors of B-Movies in the history of American cinema. Never really able to make personal movies, a slave to the power of the studios, he was still able to give a strong and personal signature to big small-budget films like Kansas City Confidential, The Brothers Rico, The Phoenix City Story and epidian westerns such as Gunman’s Walk. He was able to get his revenge when he was older, becoming rich thanks to an autoproduced film, Walking Tall.
