The XVII edition of Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest will officially begin on Wednesday 30 October 2019 at Palazzo dei Congressi at 9.00 pm. For the occasion, Oscar-winning director Jean Jacques Annaud will be present, author of films and TV series such as The Name of the Rose, The Enemy at the Doors, Wolf Totem and The Truth on the Harry Quebert Case, with which he approaches that dark side of cinema of which Ravenna Nightmare is the icon. His cinema, in open dialogue with literature, manages to reconcile Hollywood spectacularity with European taste, reaching a perfect synthesis between action and reflection. The director will dialogue with the film critic Alessandro De Simone on the dark side of his cinema, before presenting his film, Wolf Totem, with which the XVII of Ravenna Nightmare will officially open.
French director and screenwriter known throughout the world, Jean Jacques Annaud is famous for having signed films of various genres, is perhaps the only European director to have chosen several times to direct the animals, fighting with their animal nature that is clashed with the power of his goal. Academy Award winner with his first film Black and White in Color. Very often harshly criticized by the press for the dryness of his films, he is instead considered a perfectionist and an excellent cinema technician, eager to check every step of the making of his films, even when they are published on DVD. A nature lover and a scholar of animist and pagan religions, he is a convinced anti-colonialist.
