In a country village the samurai Sawamura comes across the talented but impoverished swordsman Tsuzuki, proposing to join the team of warriors - still in the process of recruitment - who will be in charge of the safety of the shÅgun in Edo. Although embittered at the thought of leaving the villagers, Tsuzuki agrees but the day of departure is seized by an illness. As if this were not enough, some shady figures lurk around the fileds, and the military capital became more and more distant.
Shinya Tsukamoto (1960) is a Japanese actor, director and screenwriter. In 1985, after graduating in History of Art at the Nihon University in Tokyo, he created the Kaiju Theatre (Theatre of the Sea Monsters), an underground theater group with which he staged dramatic texts. After some acting tests, he moved to directing with some short films. In 1988, he shoots "Tetsuo", for which he claims to have been inspired by the works of David Lynch and David Cronenberg. Independence and artisanship are a characteristic and constant trait in almost all of his works. "Tetsuo" won, among others, the Best Film Award at the Fantafestival in Rome in 1989. In 2002 he shot "A Snake of June" (Rokugatsu no hebi), presented at the Venice Film Festival, where he won the Special Prize of the Jury.
