The day begins at 11 am at the Palazzo del Cinema with La Trincea, introduced by Dr. Alberto Achilli, a television drama directed by Vittorio Cottafavi transmitted on November 4th, 1961 by the second television channel of which he constituted the inaugural broadcast. The script was taken from the homonymous drama of Giuseppe Dessì set in a trench during the First World War. In the drama, and then in the television drama, are narrated the salient phases of the conquest of the trench called "rockets" by the Sassari Brigade on November 14, 1915, as part of the Fourth Battle of the Isonzo, episode of which was also the protagonist father of the writer. In the trenches, among the Italian troops, time is spent remembering family affections and debating the best way to break down enemy defenses. From the Italian command comes the order to attack the Austrians. The Italian captain prepares an attack plan; the soldiers are aware that most of them will not survive.
