Mushō is a rural village, province of Chiba. It’s the only place in Japan where the “Hell’s Play” takes place. They say that the Kiragō tradition (The coming of the Buddha and the demons) originates at the beginning of the Kamakura era, between the end of XII and the beginning of the XIII century. It was a sacred representation that was held to counter particularly severe crisis phases.
Murayama Masami (1941) entered Sakura film in 1964. His interests include traditional arts, folklore and natural science. He made several documentaries.
