Ottobre Giapponese is the historical section that was born from the collaboration with A.S.C.I.G - Association for the cultural exchanges between Italy and Japan - Japanese Istitute of Culture, with the goal to promote the indipendent japanese cinematography thanks to several international premieres
This year the program of the section proposes a look back on the Oscar nominated Koji Yamamura, director and one of the most important ever animator, as well as the national premiere of an extraordinary documentary: Mishima: The Last Debate, documentary of the historical debate of Mishima and the one thousand students of the Tokyo University in 1969. "The retrospective on Yamamura is a part of the project of bringing the masters of indimentent japanese animation to the italian public and we are pleased to do so with such a brilliant and innovative author as Yamamura. Moreover, to remember the 50th aniversaryof the death of Mishima Yukio, we will have the Italian premiere of the new documentary Mishima: the last debate, by Toyoshima Keisuke." said Marco Del Bene, president and founder of A.S.C.I.G. Finally the documentary: Kiraigo. The village where buddhas and demons live, by Murayama Masami, Kataoka Nozomi, Inoue Minoru, documentary thats shows the ancient tradition of Kiraigō and the Hell's Play.

Mushō is a rural village, province of Chiba. It’s the only place in Japan where the “Hell’s Play” takes place. They say that the Kiragō tradition (The coming of the Buddha and the demons) originates at the beginning of the Kamakura era, between the end of XII and the beginning of the XIII century. It was a sacred representation that was held to counter particularly severe crisis phases.
