A young woman goes on vacation alone in the English countryside after the death of her husband. While someone, or something, in the surrounding woods seems to be haunting her, she makes the acquaintance of Geoffrey, the eccentric landlord, and later a series of individuals of increasing and disturbing bizarreness. A disturbing and enigmatic work from the director of Ex Machina and Annihilation.
Alex Garland began as a novelist, writing The Beach and The Tesseract. He moved into screenwriting with 28 Days Later, directed by Danny Boyle, and made his directorial debut with Ex Machina, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award and two BAFTA awards. In 2018, Garland released his second film as writer-director, Annihilation, based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer. He is currently in production directing his original script Civil War, an action feature set in a near future America, for A24.
