COME ASFALTO SUI PRATI (AS ASPHALT ON THE GRASS) by Stefano Mazzesi (Clown Bianco Edizioni, 2024)

In 1985 Michele Rio turns sixteen. At home, in Ravenna, his parents and a cake await him, which his mother will bring to the table, as always, singing Happy Birthday to you in her beautiful voice. Michele does not know that this will be the last time he will see her. Because the next day, his mother's body will be found lifeless in a service area near Genoa. No one knew what she had gone to do so far away and obviously no one can imagine why she was killed. Thus begins for Michele a picaresque summer that will change his life forever, in which he will fall in love for the first time and in which he will travel around Europe in a truck together with Raul, a lonely truck driver whose only companion is his dog. And who for some reason has decided to help that little boy in his desperate search for his mother's killer. Because the murderer has already killed, always leaving corpses in places frequented by those who live the street every day for work. And, above all, he will continue to do so.

Finalist at the Giallo Garda 2024 Festival.

L'ESTATE DEI MORTI (SUMMER OF THE DEAD) by Giuliano Pasini (Piemme, 2024)

Sibilla drowned in a muddy pond in the middle of the woods, during the summer of the dead in 1984. With her was Luce, her best friend, who always swore she had never entered the water. Even though she was soaked when they found her on the shore, distraught. Twenty years later, at the same time of year, between late October and early November, two men are brutally murdered in an abandoned farmhouse. Reporting the crime and leading the discovery of the bodies - with a call to the Case Rosse police station - is a girl who presents herself to the police under the name of Sibilla. And the farmhouse where the massacre took place is the one where Luce, who in the meantime seems to have disappeared for years, had lived. It will be up to police commissioner Roberto Serra and agent Rubina Tonelli to try to solve a case that involves the living and the dead, taking up the sad epilogue of a forgotten tragedy. To find the murderer, they will have to agree to enter the thick of the forest and meet the Borda and the other creatures who guard its secrets.

Giuliano Pasini sinks his hands into the Emilian tradition and concocts a psychological thriller that evokes everyone's innermost fears. A novel that finally reminds us that the real, only monster inhabiting the Earth is man.

Giuliano Pasini - Born in Zocca, he is a proud man of the Apennines who lives in the plains, in Treviso. A member of Community, one of the most important Italian reputation societies, he is president of the Massarosa Literary Prize and on the jury of other Italian and international competitions. His debut, Venti corpi nella neve (now Piemme), immediately became a publishing case, translated in several countries. This was followed by Io sono lo straniero and Il fiume ti porta via (both Mondadori), and È così che si muore (Piemme), all starring Roberto Serra, an anomalous policeman endowed with great humanity, in perpetual flight from himself and the evil that afflicts him.
