Today we present the title of the RNFF's historic Celebrations section: CHINATOWN, by Roman Polanski
"Set in 1930s Los Angeles, Chinatown tells the story of private detective J.J. Gittes (Jack Nicholson), who specialises in cases of marital infidelity. One day, Gittes is hired by a woman posing as Evelyn Mulwray to investigate her husband, Hollis Mulwray, chief engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. After discovering that Hollis is involved in something bigger than just an extramarital affair, Gittes finds himself caught up in a conspiracy involving the city's water management and a web of corruption."
