"For this year's 2024 edition, the section dedicated to films in competition offers a series of works that are extremely different from each other, to satisfy an increasingly heterogeneous audience from year to year.
With the 2024 selection, we wanted to emphasise above all works that, in addition to exploring the narrative and aesthetic boundaries of the seventh art, as in our tradition, seek to trigger in the spectator the spark of deeper reflections, in an attempt to ensure that the Nightmare Festival can continue to accompany its loyal and new guests on a path of continuous artistic research.
The competition delves into the territories of cinematic art and the five selected films, all to be discovered, fearlessly explore the new languages of contemporaneity.
Extreme and irreverent works such as Vampire Zombies... from Space!, directed by Michael Stasko, featuring, among others, Judith O'Dea, the iconic face of Night of the Living Dead, and Lloyd Kaufman, the legendary founder of Troma; El Santo, by Argentinean director Carbonere, a dark and edgy work; the Polish The Horse Tail, directed by Justyna Luczaj, an immersion in a surreal and fairy-tale imagery; the Bulgarian PHI 1. 618, a dystopian and dark fairy tale brought to the stage by director Theodore Ushev; and The Severed Sun, an English film directed by Dean Puckett, a fresco of elegant restlessness."
Mariangela Sansone, co-director of Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest.
