David Lynch is one of the most acclaimed, important and influential directors on the contemporary film scene, who has given us memorable masterpieces in recent years.
Born on 20 January 1946 in Montana (USA), Lynch began his artistic career at the Pennsylvania School of Fine Arts in 1966, initially devoting himself to drawing, before plunging with increasing passion into the world of cinema. After making a series of short films, Lynch got the opportunity to direct his first feature film for the American Film Institute: ‘Eraserhead’. This project, the result of eight years of work, established him as a talented director, garnering both public and critical acclaim.
The film enabled him to embark on an even more ambitious project: "The Elephant Man" (1980), a touching reconstruction of the life of a real man who was severely deformed by a genetic disease in the 19th century. This film, intense and sensitive in its treatment of complex themes, won seven Oscar nominations.
David Lynch's artistic activity extends beyond cinema, embracing also the visual arts: his works were exhibited at the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art, demonstrating his all-round versatility and creativity.
