The Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest presents the new poster for the twenty-third edition 2025. Back is the symbol of the festival, the metal wolf, a metaphor for mutation, man becoming beast, humanity imbued with a feral, animalic fusis, in an inseparable unicum between rationality and instinctive part, exactly like the transformation undertaken in recent years by the Ravenna festival, an internationally known kermesse.
The Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest since 2017 has embarked on a path of transformation, delving into the darkest meanderings of cinema, transcending the boundaries of genre definition, investigating an expanded and absolute mapping of cinematic geography, but, exactly like the metal wolf, still keeping intact its nature, linked to darkness.
As the founder and artistic director of the festival, Franco Calandrini, states, “Three months after the start of the Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest, the image of the metal wolf we imagined with the dark blue moon returns, because the night is getting deeper, the cinema system is collapsing, and there is hell outside, we are seeing it all around us, and this time we could not say that ‘we did not know.’”
Like cinema itself, the figure of the metal wolf is metonymy, a synecdotal figure of a change that keeps its origin intact; it explores the layers of perception with a sensibility that, defying genre-bound conventions, projects itself into a beyond without any boundaries.
