In the future, amputations replace incarceration and the death penalty.
Richards developed an early interest in film by making skateboarding videos in the 1990's before completing an Advanced Diploma of Film & Television at the Western Australian School of Art, Design and Media in 2000. He then made music videos and collaborated on several art projects before completing a Masters of Directing Narrative at the Victorian College of the Arts, in 2011, culminating with the multi-award winning short film First Contact collected 8 awards and screened in competition at 30 festivals in 16 countries world-wide. In 2013 he began to develop his debut feature film, No Harbour.
