From 27^th October to 01^st November, Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest presents the International Feature Competition. Six are the feature films that will compete for Premio Concorso Internazionale Anello d’Oro, design by goldsmith Marco Gerbella.

From the USA, Simon Rumley directs the evil Johnny Frank Garrett's Last Word; from Russia two disturbing films, Paranormal Drive by Oleg Asadulin and Tragedy at Rodger's Bay by Philipp Abryutin; Snow, debut feature film by Bulgarian director Ventsislav Vasilev; from Switzerland, a choral and terrifying film, 10 young filmmakers direct the apocalyptic Wonderland; and from Norway, last but not least, Villmark Asylum by Pål Øie.

Among the most interesting appointment of XVI edition of Ravenna Nightmare there is certainly the retrospective Lezioni di Cinema - The evolution of the genre from classical to postmodern, curated by the essayist and film critic Mariangela Sansone.

The Neo Noir is a sub-genre of noir. It uses most of the elements of noir filmography but with the addition of topics, content, styles and visual elements which were not present or were not used in the Forties and Fifties’ noir movies. Today, this term is used to describe those movies, realized after the Fifties and Sixties, that belong to this kind of genre or share their themes.

The exhibition presents three of the most significant titles of the sub-genre of noir modern setting, including the unforgettable masterpiece of 1974 Chinatown, by Roman Polanski, L’Amico Americano (1977) by Win Wenders and Brivido Caldo (Body Heat, 1981) di Lawrence Kasdan.

Among the preview we have to point out the exclusive Opening Night: a night party to celebrate the openig of the new edition all together, with our most loyal audience. This year, the occasion is given by thirtieth anniversary of Blue Velvet, undisputed masterpiece by David Lynch.

Nessuno siamo perfetti regia di Giancarlo Soldi, 2014, uno dei ritratti più lucidi e appassionati sul padre di Dylan Dog - presentato in sala dal critico cinematografico Massimo Perissinotto; il docufilm uscito in sala il 18 giugno 2015 è passato su Sky Arte, ma la versione  sala che proietterà il Nightmare ha una scena iniziale in più, in cui Tiziano Sclavi parla del suo rapporto con la morte.

The natural’s point of convergence between Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest and GialloLuna NeroNotte will be the Preview of the Festivals dedicated to Tiziano Sclavi and to the thirty years of his most famous character: Dylan Dog, the Nightmare Investigator. RNFF will present two important movies: Nessuno siam perfetti by Giancarlo Soldi, 2014 the most lucid portraits on the father of Dylan Dog - presented by critic Massimo Perissinotto and the cult Dellamorte Dellamore by Michele Soavi, 1994

GialloLuna Neronotte will propose a meeting with Dylan Dog’s writers, Paola Barbato e Cristiana Astori, and comic book  illustrators Gigi Simeoni. In addition to this, it will be setting up an exhibition about Dylan Dog’s story with original copies, reproductions and life size cutout.

Big news are coming in Ravenna for the new edition of Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest!

First of all the partnership with GialloLuna NeroNotte: the most important event for genre cinema meets the festival of thriller and noir literature to bring in our city the most dark side of movies and literature.From 27^th October to 01^st November, Ravenna Nightmare and GialloLuna will present their rich programs to all the fans, creating a synergy: morning events, involving schools, afternoon literary readings and evening film screenings with the partecipation of authors, guests and artistic celebrities.

The new coordinates of Ravenna Nightmare Fim Fest are from the new title of the festival The dark side of movies to the image of “Chinatown”. This year Ravenna Nightmare expands its horizons to bordering genres: noir is one of them. It is just within the new Retrospective named the "Neo Noir", that Roman Polanski’s work of genius dated 1974 finds its place.

Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest evolves. The direction indicated by the International Competition for Short films (free and anarchist by nature)  and by the natural and increasingly frequent contamination between genres, made us reflect on how much a change was almost indispendable. The horror film, which in our festival will always find a safe shelter, was not enough to represent that vast production of films that have no place in the official circuit of the Cinemas and generalist festivals. After having explored for 13 years the horror cinema under all its tendencies also within the International Competition through retrospectives and major tributes, this year Ravenna Nightmare Film Fest expands its horizons towards other genres like noir in particular, but also crime, science fiction, thriller, fantasy, ghost stories and mystery; in short, the Festival evolves to the dark side of Movies. A natural evolution which became necessary in order for the Festival to continue to represent a point of reference for authors of films which belong to the above mentioned genres. The main event of the Festival will still be the International Competition for feature films coupled with the International Competition for short films. Special events will also make Ravenna to be for one week the point of reference for genre films and will show hopefully to the widest possible audience, the dark side of movies.
